Mrs. John Izard Middleton (1793-?)
Otherwise known as Eliza Augusta Falconet. In 1810 Eliza, a native of France, married John Izard Middleton of of Middleton Place, a large estate near Charleston. Middleton himself was an artist, mostly of Italian panoramas. Together they traveled extensively, especially in Italy. Complete 2014.

ReplyDeleteSo much of the above is false. She was never known as Eliza Augusta Falconet, a native of France. For many years HER PORTRAIT, which you have used above, was for many years mistaken for that of E. Augusta Falconet. Sally Middleton married a John Izard Middleton. But he WAS NOT the John Izard Middleton, who was an artist, mostly of Italian panoramas. Nor was Sally Alston Middleton "white trash."
